Donald Nelson Houg, 90, of St. Olaf, died Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. He was born August 23, 1924, in St. Olaf, to Ole K. and Clara (Nelson) Houg. Don was baptized and confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf. He was educated at St. Olaf Public School, Elkader High School and Elkader Jr. College.
During WW II, he served in the Army Air Corp in the C.B.I. Theatre in India as a crew member on a B-25 bomber.
He was united in marriage to Linda Thomas on May 14, 1961, in Decorah. Two children were born to this union.
Don managed the family hardware store for twenty-two years and was a loan officer at Central State Bank in Elkader for an additional twenty-two years. Don and Linda enjoyed twenty-five years of retirement.
Survivors include his wife Linda, of St. Olaf; daughter, Jerilyn (Dr. Grant) Smith of Plymouth, MN; son, David (Leah) Houg of North Liberty; five grandchildren, Chase Smith, Reece Smith, Victoria Smith, Brieana Houg, Nicholas Houg and one great-grand-daughter, Sienna Houg, and many friends.
