Mildred G. “Millie” Walch, 92, of Elkader, entered into death on March 24, 2015, at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque following a brief illness. Mildred was born July 19, 1922, in Elkader, to Joseph and Hildagard (Peick) Downey.

She was united in marriage to David Walch on November 13, 1944, in California. To this union, three sons were born, Michael, Jeffrey and Dennis. They made their lifelong home in Elkader.

In her early years, she worked in California during World War II. Later on, Mildred worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Holmes for twenty five years.

Mildred or Millie to all of her friends was very active in St. Joseph’s Church and crafters group, Business and Professional Women’s Club; and her favorite of all, being involved in her numerous bridge clubs. Millie’s hobbies included golfing, dancing (in her earlier years) and making her ever popular peanut brittle at Christmas time.

She truly enjoyed time spent with her family. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Michael (Elaine) Walch of The Dalles, OR, Jeffrey (Karen) Walch of Elkader and Dennis (Kris) Walch of Clayton, CA; grandchildren, Nikki Pope (Darren), Kristi (Alan) Recker, Jason (Sara) Walch and Jacquie Hill; great-grandchildren, Andrea (Devin), Mitch, Blaine, Quntin, Logan, Mason, Connor, Sean and Kashton; great-great-grandchild, Addysen; brothers, Robert Downey of Marion, and Keith (Mary Jo) Downey of Laramie, WY; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband David of 49 years; brother, Charles and two sisters, Mary and Catherine.
