Kathryn Ann (Kotek) Fuhrman, 88, of Volga, Iowa, died Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Gundersen Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She was born on July 25, 1927, in Independence, Iowa, to Benjamin and Ruth (Pierce) Kotek. She graduated from Lamont High School in 1945, and from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota in 1948. Kathryn was a member of the Army Nurse Corp.
On November 20, 1948, Kathryn was united in marriage to Clarence Fuhrman in Lamont, Iowa at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. To this union two children were born.
She was the first school nurse for Central Community School District. She was an active supporter of her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. Kathryn was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Her pastimes included gardening, canning, baking and quilting. She shared her talents with friends and neighbors of the Volga community.
Kathryn is survived by her two children, Joan (Del) Schreck of Holmen, WI and Jim (Jill) Fuhrman, of Volga, IA; four grandchildren, Chandler Head and Kathryn (Mike) McCormack, both of Salt Lake City, Utah, BJ (Jolie) Fuhrman of Johnston, IA and Leah (Alec) Zwanziger of Strawberry Point, IA; two great-grandchildren, Drew and Lauren Tegels; brother, Dean (Eileen) Kotek of Lamont, IA; brothers-in-law, Glen (Beulah Mae) Fuhrman of Ferryville, WI, and Duane Fuhrman of Elysian, MN, and several nieces and nephews.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents Ben and Ruth Kotek and her husband, Clarence.
